Used in the treatment of indoor and outdoor nasal allergies, Flonase is basically an anti-inflammatory nasal spray. This spray play a prominent part in minimizing the inflammation that causes nasal symptoms like runny nose, congestion and sneezing. Fluticasone propionate is the main ingredient in Flonase.

Flonase is the only spray approved by the Food and Drug Administration in treating the nasal symptoms of indoor and outdoor allergies. It is also quite useful in treating year round non-allergic nasal symptoms. Unlike some nonprescription nasal sprays, Flonase is not habit forming. When using Flonase, you will not face any problem with regard to your sleeping pattern. Flonase belongs to a class of drugs commonly known as intranasal corticosteroids. Similar to cortisol, intranasal corticosteroids lowers inflammation, which means that nasal airway's response to allergens is somewhat reduced. Cortisol assists your body in dealing with infection, stress, injury and inflammation.

Children more than four years of age can use Flonase. To get best results from Flonase, make sure that you use it in exactly the same way as prescribed by your health care provider. Daily use of Flonase will speed up the process. Some of the common side effects associated with Flonase are sore throat, nosebleed and headache. If you are taking other prescription medications, make sure that you tell your health care provider about it. To start with, adults should only take two sprays in each nostril, once a day. After two or three days, you have a choice of lowering your dosage to one spray in each nostril. On the other hand, for children below four years of age, starting dosage should not exceed one spray in each nostril, once per day.
