Epogen and its dosage:
Epogen is a powerful drug. Therefore, the dosage is not exactly the same for everyone. It varies from person to person on a large scale. Below are some points to consider.

Starting dosage:
The starting dosage is determined according to a person’s weight. Patients, who weigh more, start with a heavier dosage, as compared to the patients with normal or less weight.

Maintenance Dosage:
Normally, the maintenance dosage depends on the patient’s health, but according to a study the average dosage that is given does not change before 4 weeks.

Dose Adjustment:
Doses should be adjusted according to a patient’s health. It should not exceed the target of hemoglobin that is 12 g/dL.

Some important steps:

-Follow your doctor’s instructions while you are on Epogen. You should not take extra dosage and should not exceed the period a doctor prescribed one.

-Store Epogen in a cold place, but don’t let it freeze.

-Generally, we shake a bottle well before having medicine. Don’t practice the same thing with Epogen, as it ruins the medicine.

-If the medicine has changed its color, talk to your consultant about it.

-Epogen is injected into the body. Your doctor or nurse will guide you on how to inject this medicine. If you are not sure where exactly to inject it, you should not do it yourself. It is dangerous.

-Each syringe should be used once. Consult your pharmacist on how to dispose these syringes safely.

-If you want to make sure whether Epogen is helping your body in producing red cells or not, you should get a blood test regularly. Also, you should regularly get your kidney functions tested.

Over dosage of the drug:
The symptoms of the over dosage of this drug are not known yet. You should immediately ask for medical attention if you think you have over dosed the drug.

Missed a dose?
If you think you have missed a dose, you should immediately contact your doctor.
