Role of Carisoprodol
Some people suffer from muscular spasms. These may occur because of sprains and strains. Carisoprodol is a medication that is used to treat such conditions skeletal muscle spasms. Carisoprodol works by inhibiting the pain messages transmitted to the brain.

One of the ingredients in Carisoprodol is codeine, which is responsible for changes in sensation in the body, transforming the way that a body experiences sensations and pain. Codeine is a narcotic which is why it has the effects mentioned here. Carisoprodol is believed to be most effective when used in tandem with rest and physical therapy. Doctors may even recommend Carisoprodol along with other therapies. It is known to be one of the best treatments for injuries to the skeletal muscles.

Doctors usually recommend not more than 4 tablets (1,400 mg) per day. You are advised not to exceed this amount and adhere strictly to the doctor’s instructions.

Side Effects
Carisoprodol may have some severe side effects that are listed below:

• difficulty breathing;
• paralysis
• extreme weakness;
• vision loss;
• agitation or tremor;
• closing of your throat;
• swelling of your lips,
• tongue, or face;
• hives;
• red, black, or red stools;
• blood in your vomit.

You need immediate medical attention if you have any of the above side effects.
Miler side effects that are more common include:

• hiccups;
• faint ringing in the ears;
• insomnia; or
• nausea,
• vomiting, or
• headache;
• depression;
• blurred vision or small pupils;
• drowsiness or dizziness;
• constipation.

Though these are mild, if they are prolonged you should see your doctor.

Precautions
Carisoprodol is a medication that can be addictive because of its ingredient, Codeine. Therefore, you should be careful if you have addictions with alcohol or drugs.

You should also tell your doctor if you have had any history of:

• stomach or intestines ulcers,
• liver disease,
• urinary retention,
• an enlarged prostate,
• hypothyroidism,
• a head injury,
• blood or clot disorder,
• kidney disease,
• Addison's disease,

You should tell your doctor if you are under any other medications. Particular medications that need to be taken note of include:

• brompheniramine (Dimetane, Bromfed, etc.)
• chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton, Teldrin, etc.),
• azatadine (Optimine),
• clemastine (Tavist),

Other kinds of drugs that will interact with Carisoprodol and should be reported to your doctor include narcotic pain killers like:

• meperidine (Demerol),
• hydrocodone (Lorcet, Vicodin),
• oxycodone (Percocet, Percodan),
• morphine (MS Contin, MSIR),
• propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet),
• fentanyl (Duragesic),
• codeine (Fiorinal, Fioricet, etc.);

You should never miss out on a dose. If you happen to do so, you should not try and make up for it. Never double dose and try to cover up. You should forget about the missed dose, and move on to the next one.
