Ionamin is a brand name of the anti-obesity
drug Phentermine. It is an appetite
suppressant that is used in conjunction
with a diet and exercise for the short-term
management of obesity. Ionamin works
by decreasing a person’s appetite

or fullness. Ionamin does not work
by itself; it will only help a person
lose weight when it is taken along
with a healthy diet and an exercise

habit forming drug, it is important
that you follow your doctor’s
instructions precisely while using
Ionamin. Swallow the tablet whole
with a glass of water. Do not break,
crush, or chew Ionamin before swallowing
it. Take this drug as directed by
your doctor, in the morning before
breakfast or 2 hours after breakfast.
Make sure that you take Ionamin at
least 10 to 14 hours before bedtime.
Do not exceed the recommended dose
of this drug or take it for longer
than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended

Side
Effects
Although side effects from Ionamin
are not common, they can occur in
some people. Inform your doctor if
any of these symptoms are severe or
persistent:
- dry mouth
- unpleasant taste
- diarrhea
- constipation
- vomiting
If you experience any of the following
symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- increased blood pressure
- heart palpitations
- restlessness
- dizziness
- tremors
- insomnia
- shortness of breath
- chest pain
- dizziness
- swelling of the legs and ankles
- difficulty doing exercise that you
have been able to do
Special
Precautions
Before taking Ionamin;
- Inform your doctor and pharmacist
if you are allergic to phentermine
or any other drugs.
- Inform your doctor about what prescription
and nonprescription medications you
are on especially fluoxetine (Prozac),
fluvoxamine (Luvox), guanethidine,
insulin, MAO inhibitors like phenelzine
(Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate),
medications for weight loss and depression,
paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft),
and vitamins.
- Inform your doctor if you have
or have had heart disease, high blood
pressure, arteriosclerosis, hyperthyroidism,
diabetes, glaucoma, or a history of
drug abuse.
- Also inform your doctor if you are
pregnant, plan to become pregnant,
or are breast-feeding. If you become
pregnant while on this drug call your
doctor right away.
Know that Ionamin may cause drowsiness,
so do not drive or perform hazardous
tasks while you are on this drug.
Alcohol can add to the drowsiness
caused by this drug. If you have diabetes,
you may need a larger dose of insulin
while taking Ionamin.
