How
Prevacid Works
Prevacid GastroIntestinal
Effect
Having ulcers and other gastric
problems can really upset a
person’s life. There is
almost constant discomfort,
and would do almost anything
to get rid of it. Prevacid is
a medication that helps to subdue
such intestinal conditions;
it prevents the secretion of
gastric juices that cause the
pain one experiences in the
stomach.
Prevacid Effect
Prevacid aids in blocking the
secretion of pain-giving gastric
juices. It is used to deal with
stomach ulcers, esophagitis,
and other related problems that
are caused by high content of
stomach acid.
Generally, Prevacid should
be consumed only once a day.
However, your dosage would depend
on what your doctor prescribes
for you; you may be asked to
take more than one dose of Prevacid
per day.
Consuming Prevacid requires
you to take it one hour prior
to a meal. This will aid absorption,
and thus make the medicine more
effective. If you take Prevacid
after a meal, it is less effective
because of the fact that much
less of the medicine is absorbed.
In order to consume Prevacid
the correct way, you should
consume the pill as it is. Crushing
it or breaking it is not advised.
For those that cannot consume
the pill as it is, you are advised
to open the contents into a
small amount of applesauce.
You may then consume the applesauce,
but do not chew it.
Prevacid Side Effects
Side effects of consuming
Prevacid include:
nausea
stomach pain.
More serious side effects
include:
• chest pain,
• muscle pain,
• stomach pain,
• breathing trouble,
• mood changes,
• rapid heartbeat,
• diarrhea,
• changes in stool color,
• vision changes,
In case of these severe side
effects you should see a doctor
immediately.
In addition to side effects,
Prevacid may also cause particular
changes that are undesired.
These are allergic reactions
that may take the form of particular
symptoms, such as:
• swelling,
• rash,
• itching,
• dizziness,
• restricted breathing.
You are once again
advised to see a doctor immediately
when these occur.
Prevacid Drug Interactions
You should inform your doctor
if you are taking any other
type of medication. You should
particularly note the following:
• sucralfate,
• iron,
• theophylline,
• ampicillin,
• digoxin,
• ketoconazole.
It is known that Prevacid will
cause an allergic reaction in
individuals who have been sensitive
towards Omeprazole/Lansoprazole.
You should be aware that Prevacid
interacts with particular medications.
If you are using sucralfate
(Carafate) for your gastro conditions,
you should consume Prevacid
around half an hour earlier.
Consuming any thing else with
Prevacid means that its effects
will be reduced. Also, some
medications will also have reduced
effects when taken with Prevacid.
These medicines include:
• digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps),
• ampicillin (Omnipen,
Principen),
• ketoconazole (Nizoral),
• iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron,
Fergon, Femiron).
You should inform your
doctor if you are taking any
of the above medications
While consuming doses, make
sure that you stick to your
doctor’s prescription.
If you happen to miss out on
a dose, do not double-dose.
Simply go to the next dose.
