How Propecia Works

Hair Loss
Falling hair is something that every one nobody likes. It is known that falling hair can destroy one’s peace of mind and transform their moods and self-esteem. However, a person does not necessarily go through such an ordeal. This is because of the availability of a medication such as Propecia.

What is Propecia and its Actions
Propecia is an FDA approved drug that is known to be quite successful. It is available in the form of a pill that is easily consumed. Usually, it is consumed once a day, and with this consumption most men experience a great difference in their hair growth. In some cases, some men experience hair growing back quickly after hair loss has receded. At least two out of three men notice hair growing back in places where they were totally bald.

The recommended time to allow Propecia to act on your scalp is 6 months. This means it is not recommended that you start it for a period less than that believing that it won’t work.

Propecia functions by targeting what researchers believe to be the main cause of hair loss.
A hormone known has DHT is believed to be an active agent in causing hair loss by interacting with hair follicles. Propecia targets this hormone and nullifies its effects on follicles, thereby slowing down the loss of hair one experiences.

Once your follicles are safeguarded from DHT, they cannot be damaged and you will not lose anymore hair. For those of you with thinning hair as well, Propecia is a recommended cure.

Side Effects of Propecia
Side Effects are very few and fewer than 2% of men are known to experience sexual side effects. Some of the side effects include:

• reduced desire for sex,
• impotence,
• decrease in semen content.

These side effects are known to recede when Propecia intake is halted.

Gender and Propecia
One must also note that Propecia is only manufactured for men and not women. Propecia is believed to harmful for pregnant women and even if a woman so much as touches the pill when she is pregnant it can cause deformities in the child. This is because of the active agent in the Propecia pill. It must be particularly noted that if the baby in the womb is a male, its sexual organs may be damaged.

You should note that Propecia can cause changes in sexual functions. These are mostly temporary, but if they are prolonged it is better for you to see a doctor. Symptoms of Propecia causing poisonous effects in your body include:

• swollen lips
• skin rashes
• hives

You should not waste any time when poisoning symptoms occur, and a doctor’s advice should be consulted as soon as possible.

While using Propecia for hair treatment, try not to miss out on doses. However, if you miss out on a dose, do not try to make up for it. Simply go to the next one.
