Ingredients
Esgic is made up from Butalbital,
Acetaminophen and Caffeine,
which when mixed together in
the right quantity relieves
pain and also functions as a
relaxant. Butalbital is an organic
compound that has a powerful
soporific effect; an overdose
of Butalbital can be fatal.
Acetaminophen is used to cure
of fevers, and the other main
ingredient, called Caffeine,
acts as a stimulant to the nervous
system.
Other inactive ingredients
in Esigic are:
• Crospovidone,
• FD&C Blue #1,
• Magnesium stearate,
• Microcrystalline cellulose,
• Povidone,
• Pregelatinized starch,
and
• Stearic acid.
Chemistry
Before taking Esgic, be sure
to consult your doctor about
the medicine. This is because
this medication may or may not
be suitable for you. Allergies
of any kind that you may have
had should be reported to your
doctor, especially if you are
allergic to the main ingredients
of Esgic.
This medication is not meant
for people who are pregnant,
as the main ingredient is known
to increase the chances of birth
defects in a child. Further
studies have also shown that
barbiturates have been the cause
of brain tumors in new born
babies.
The only side effect that this
may have on children is that
it can cause excitement in some
children.
Although no medications should
be taken with other medication
this is because of the fact
that certain medication might
interact with other medication
and may also have less or an
adverse effect on one. If you
are taking medication such as
anticoagulants, corticosteroids,
medications for the central
nervous system, antidepressants
it is best to consult your doctor
before take Esgic.
Dosage
If you are taking the medication
without the advice of your doctor,
you are advised to follow the
instructions on the leaflet.
However, all medication should
be followed according to your
doctor’s advice. Be sure
not to take the medication for
an extended period, as you might
become dependant on it. If the
dose subscribed by your doctor
is different to what the normal
dosage is, do not change it
unless you consult it with your
doctor.
The dose that will be given
to different individuals will
depend on the strength of the
medication and an individual’s
health condition.
Normally, an adult will take
one or two capsules after every
four hours. If the capsule strength
is between 325 and 500mg, not
more than six capsules a day
should be taken per day. If
the strength of the capsule
is 650mg, the intake should
not be more than four capsules.
