Ingredients
of Flexeril
Flexeril is used in the relief
of pains; this is done by helping
some of the muscles in your
body relax. The medicine is
taken due to pain caused by
sprains, stiffness or injuries
that have affected the muscles.
This medication is only meant
for supporting the efforts in
relieving pain and is not to
be used as a supplement for
therapies or exercise or other
treatments that have been instructed
by your doctor.
The main ingredient in Flexeril
is Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride.
This is a white crystalline
tricyclic amine salt, which
is freely soluble in water and
alcohol, and is insoluble in
hydrocarbon solvents. Flexeril
comes in two strengths of 5mg
and 10mg in the form of tablets,
which are used for oral administration.
The inactive ingredients that
are present in Flexeril include
the following:
• Hypromellose,
• Iron Oxide,
• Lactose,
• Magnesium Stearate,
• Starch, and
• Titanium dioxide.
FLEXERIL 5 mg tablets also
contain
• Yellow D&C #10
• Aluminum Lake HT, and
• Yellow FD&C #6 Aluminum
Lake.
Chemistry
of Flexeril
Flexeril should be taken on
the advice of your doctor. The
medicine should not be taken
for longer than the prescribed
period of time. Doing so will
increase the chances of you
getting serious side effects.
It is further suggested that
you let your doctor be the one
to suggest the amount of Flexeril
you take and for how long you
are supposed to have it.
The dosage will be prescribed
to you once you have told you
doctor about your medical history
and if you have any current
medical conditions. With this
information you should also
tell him/her what medicines
you have been taking.
Some conditions that you should
be careful about is Glaucoma,
urination problem (Cyclobenzaprine
can make this problem worse),
and Overactive thyroid. Some
medications and beverages that
you should be extra careful
of while you are consuming Flexeril
are medications that interact
with the Central Nervous System
(CNS), such as Alcohol, and
Tricylic antidepressants.
Flexeril can cause one to have
blurred visions, or become less
alert, drowsy, etc. When you
are using this medication, be
sure you know how to deal with
these side effects, especially
if you work in places that are
dangerous or even driving.
Dosage
of taking Flexeril
The dose of this medication
will be prescribed by your doctor
as it will differ from person
to person. The medication that
is normally given to children
over the age of fifteen is usually
10mg a day and can be slowly
increased by your doctor. The
maximum amount that should be
consumed in a day should not
be more than 60mg a day.
For children the doctor will
prescribe what s/he thinks is
best for the child. When you
miss a dose and remember to
take the dose after an hour,
you can take the missed dose.
If more than an hour has elapsed,
then the dose should be skipped
and the normal dosage should
be continued.
