Ingredients, Chemistry, Dosage

Flanose is a medication for treating Nasal blockage and infection. It has the ability to deal with inflammation, through which it can reduce symptoms of nasal allergies.

Ingredients:

The active ingredient in Flonase is Fluticasone Propionate. It is an artificial corticosteroid with the following chemical name: S-(fluoromethyl)6a,9-difluoro-11ß-17-dihydroxy-16a-methyl-3-oxoandrosta- 1,4-diene-17ß-carbothioate, 17-propionate.
In addition to containing microfine fluticasone propionate, Flonase also contains microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose sodium, polysorbate 80, dextrose, 0.02% w/w benzalkonium chloride, and 0.25% w/w phenylethyl alcohol.

Chemistry:

Fluticasone propionate in appearance is a white or off-white powder. It has a molecular weight of 500.6, and an empirical formula: C25H31F3O5S.
Fluticasone propionate is not soluble in water, but is readily soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide and dimethylformamide, and only partially soluble in 95% ethanol and methanol.

Dosage:

Flonase is a nasal spray that is available in an aqueous suspension of 50 mcg (microfine fluticasone propionate). Flonase acts directly on the nasal mucosa and is administered through an atomizing spray pump.
Flonase needs to be administered by using a pump. This nasal pump needs to be primed before use. Actuating the pump about five or six times is a good idea. You should do this when you are about to use the pump for the first time or when you are using it after a week or more.
Once the pump is in action, it delivers about 50 mcg of fluticasone propionate per 100 mg of the medication. Also, every 16-g FLONASE Nasal Spray bottle delivers a total of 120 metered sprays. Beyond 120 metered sprays, the pump should not be used because of the fluticasone propionate delivered not being in correct proportion anymore anymore.

While using Flonase you should watch out for the side effects given below.
