in Imitrex
IMITREX is
a pill that is used for the
cure of severe headaches and
migraines. IMITREX is available
in injections, tablets &
nasal sprays. The main ingredient
in all of them is the ingredient
called Sumatriptan succinate.
Sumatriptan Succinate is an
almost white powder that is
readily soluble in water. The
inactive ingredients for the
nasal sprays, tablets and the
injections are given below.
Tablets:
Each IMITREX Tablet contains
35, 70, or 140 mg of sumatriptan
succinate. This is equivalent
to 25, 50, or 100 mg of sumatriptan,
respectively. This tablet is
meant for oral administration.
Each tablet also contains the
inactive ingredients
- Croscarmellose Sodium,
- Dibasic Calcium phosphate,
- Magnesium Stearate,
- Microcrystalline Cellulose,
and
- Sodium Bicarbonate.
Each 100-mg tablet also contains
- Hypromellose,
- Iron Oxide,
- Titanium Dioxide, and
- Triacetin.
Injection:
By its characteristic, IMITREX
Injection is clear, almost colorless,
sterile, and is nonpyrogenic
solution for subcutaneous injection.
Each injection is 0.5
mL is known to contain:
- 6 mg of sumatriptan (base)
as the succinate salt and
- 3.5 mg of sodium chloride,
- USP in water for injection,
USP.
Nasal Spray:
IMITREX Nasal Spray contains
5 or 20 mg of sumatriptan in
a 100-µL unit dose aqueous
buffered solution containing
- Monobasic Potassium Phosphate
NF,
- Anhydrous Dibasic Sodium
Phosphate USP,
- Sulfuric Acid NF,
- Sodium Hydroxide NF, and
- Purified water USP.
Chemistry:
IMITREX is given to patients
when the fact is determined
that the person has migraines.
IMITREX tablets, injections
or nasal sprays should be used
on the advice of the doctor.
This is very important as the
illegal use of this medicine
can cause serious side effects
and can cause one to loose their
life.
The medicine should be extremely
be avoided by people who have
a documented history of suffering
from Ischemic or Vasospastic
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
Even if it is suspected that
it is present the pill should
be avoided at all costs.
This can be determined from
the symptoms which are known
as risk factors to heart diseases
such as hypertension, smoker,
obesity, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia,
has a strong family history
of CAD, male over 40 years of
age or female with surgical
or physiological menopause.
Dosage of using Imitrex:
Since IMITREX comes in various
forms such as nasal sprays,
tablets and injections it is
utmost important that the doctor
prescribes which one is best
for you and how much of it you
have to consume. When using
the injection or the nasal spray
it could prove disastrous if
given a bit too much or too
little. The best thing is to
do exactly as the doctor prescribe.
Always remember that IMITREX
is a lifer threatening drug
and is only prescribed for you
and not for anyone else. It
should never be shared or recommended

go to the nearest poison center
