Gastro problems are uncomfortable,
and one can be out of sorts
because of such conditions.
Some people may have it mildly.
Others may have it quite severely,
and need the best possible relief.
Prevacid is one of the cures
for gastric problems, and has
proved to be quite successful
at relieving gastric pain.
Ingredients:
Prevacid is said to come in
a combination pack. It has a
mixture of NAPROSYN (naproxen)
and PREVACID® (lansoprazole).
More specifically put:
• PREVACID® NapraPAC
375 comprises NAPROSYN 375 mg
tablets and PREVACID 15 mg capsules.
• PREVACID® NapraPACTM
500 has NAPROSYN 500 mg tablets
and PREVACID 15 mg capsules.
Chemistry:
Naprosyn (Naproxen):
Naproxen is one of the members
of the arylacetic acid group.
These are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAID). Naproxen’s
chemical name is (S)-6-methoxy-?-methyl-2-naphthaleneacetic
acid. It has an empirical formula
of C14H1403 , and has a molar
mass of 230.26.
Prevacid’s active ingredient
is benzimidazole, 2-[[[3-methyl-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)-2-pyridyl]methyl]
sulfinyl] benzimidazole. This
is a compound that prevents
gastric acid from being secreted.
It has an empirical formula,
which is C16H14F3N3O2S, and
has a molar mass of 369.37.
Prevacid (Lansoprazole) is
a crystalline powder that may
be while or even brown in color.
It melts on decomposing at around
166°C. It is readily soluble
in dimethylformamide, quite
soluble in methanol. Lansoprazole
is only partially soluble in:
• ethyl acetate,
• dichloromethane
• acetonitrile;
• ether;
• hexane (almost insoluble)
• water (almost insoluble)
Lansoprazole can stand
being exposed to light for a
period of two months.
Prevacid is only taken orally
in the form of capsules. These
capsules are available in two
types of strengths. These two
strengths are 15 mg and 30 mg
in each capsule containing lansoprazole.
Each of these Prevacid capsules
has enteric-coated granules
that have lansoprazole in them.
In addition to this main ingredient,
there also is:
• hydroxypropyl cellulose,
• low substituted hydroxypropyl
cellulose,
• colloidal silicon dioxide,
• magnesium carbonate,
• methacrylic acid copolymer,
• starch,
• talc,
• sugar sphere,
• sucrose,
• polyethylene glycol,
• polysorbate 80,
• titanium dioxide.
Dosage:
You are advised to consume
Prevacid only once a day. However,
according to prescription, you
may be told to consume it more
than once.
You should always stick to
your doctor’s prescription.
Never double dose if you miss
out on a dose of Prevacid. You
should never try to cramp any
two doses together.
Also, try to make a note of
all the other medications that
you are taking. You must realize
that there are several medications
that can interact with Prevacid,
and these will reduce Prevacid’s
effect and could also reduce
the effects of the other medications
too.
