Omeprazole is a base, but one that is very weak. It is easily soluble in ethanol and methanol, and only partially soluble in acetone and isopropanol. Omeprazole is only partially soluble in water.

Dosage:

Each capsule of Prilosec is a delayed-release capsule meant for oral administration. Each capsule has either 10 mg or 20 mg of its active ingredient: omeprazole. Omeprazole is present in the form of enteric-coated granules. These granules have the following inactive ingredients:

  • cellulose,
  • hydroxypropyl cellulose,
  • hydroxypropyl methylcellulose,
  • lactose,
  • disodium hydrogen phosphate,
  • mannitol,
  • sodium lauryl sulfate

The shells of the Prilosec capsules contain the following inactive ingredients:


  • gelatin-NF,
  • titanium dioxide,
  • synthetic black iron oxide,
  • isopropanol,
  • butyl alcohol,
  • FD&C blue #1,
  • FD&C red #40,
  • D&C red #28,
  • FD&C blue #2,
  • D&C red #7 calcium lake,
  • The 10 mg capsule shell has D&C yellow #10.

When you tale Prilosec, you should forget to take all your doses. If you happen to miss out on a dose, you should not try to make up for it. Taking two doses at one time is not recommended. You should just move on to the next dose and forget about the missed one.
