TENUATE is available in tablets
in 25 mg and 75 mg contents.
TENUATE contains the active
ingredient called Diethylpropion
Hydrochloride. The 75 mg tablet
is a controlled tablet and is
strictly on the prescription
of the doctor. The inactive
for both these ingredients are
given below
TENUATE® 25 mg (immediate
release tablet)
• Corn Starch,
• Lactose,
• Magnesium Stearate,
• Pregelatinized Corn
Starch,
• Talc, and
• Tartaric acid.
TENUATE® 75 mg (controlled-release
tablet)
• Carbomer 934P,
• Mannitol,
• Povidone,
• Tartaric Acid,
• Zinc Stearate.
There is another tablet known
as the TENUATE DOSPAN tablets
where the main ingredient is
distributed via a hydrophilic
matrix. When this hits water
it is known to distribute uniformly,
thus ensuring a controlled release
of the anorectic agent.
Chemistry
of Tenuate
The tablets are to be used
for a short term and not meant
for long term use. The tablet
is known to loose its effectiveness
after a few weeks. When this
happens it is recommended that
you stop taking the pills and
not to increase the dosage.
Your doctor should be aware
of all allergies you may have
or any medical conditions that
you have had or are going through.
If you know that you are allergic
to any appetite suppressants
or have any other drug reactions
it’s recommended to inform
your doctor.
The drug should also be avoided
are; arteries hardening, thyroid
that is overactive, blood pressure
that is high or severe.
While taking this drug you
should avoid alcohol as it can
have adverse effects on one.
When TENUATE is taken with other
drugs the reactions with the
other drugs can be increased
or decreased depending on the
medication that you are taking.
You should keep the following
medications in mind before you
take TENUATE; any blood pressure
medicines, or drugs for Phenothiazine.
Dosage
while using Tenuate:
The dosage should be taken as
prescribed and you should not
over do the dosage. TENUATE
can be very addictive and can
become a habit. If you are prescribed
the controlled release version
of the pill then it is further
recommended that you should
not chew or crush the tablet.
The TENUATE 25mg tablet is
taken thrice in a day with every
meal namely breakfast, lunch
& dinner. Some people may
take the last medications in
the middle of the evening and
to escape the evening dinner.
The TENUATE 75mg tablet is
taken once at midday.
If one has missed a dose it
should be taken as soon as it
is remembered and if the time
taken is not far from the next
dose it should be skipped and
the dosage should not be doubled.
