Viagra is believed to be one
of the best remedies for erectile
dysfunction. It has a minimum
number of side effects, and
has known to be successful
with curing up to 80% of men
with erectile dysfunction.
Ingredient:
Viagra is an orally consumed
pill that has sildenafil citrate
as its main ingredient. It
is a selective inhibitor to
cyclic guanosine monophosphate
(cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase
type 5 (PDE5).
Sildenafil Citrate is a crystalline
powder that is white or off-white.
It solubility in water is
3.5 mg/ml, and has a molar
mass 666.7. This main ingredient
is available in the form of
a Viagra pill that is a blue
coated smooth diamond-shaped
tablet. It is available in
different strengths with 25
mg, 50 mg and 100 mg of sildenafil
for oral consumption.
In addition to the
main ingredient in Viagra,
others include:
• microcrystalline cellulose,
• anhydrous dibasic
calcium phosphate,
• croscarmellose sodium,
• magnesium stearate,
• hydroxypropyl methylcellulose,
• titanium dioxide,
• lactose,
• triacetin,
• FD&C blue #2 aluminum
lake.
Chemistry:
Sildenafil Citrate is a known
chemically as: 1-[[3-(6,7-dihydro-1-methyl-7-oxo-3-propyl-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-d]pyrimidin-
5-yl)-4-ethoxyphenyl]sulfonyl]-4-methylpiperazine
citrate.
Before you use Viagra, you
should inform your doctor
if you have been using any
of the following medicines:
• amlodipine (Norvasc)
• medications for high
blood pressure,
• cimetidine (Tagamet,
Tagamet HB),
• erythromycin,
• isosorbide (Imdur,
Ismo, Isordil, and others),
• itraconazole (Sporanox),
ketoconazole (Nizoral),
• nitroglycerin (Nitro-Bid,
Nitrostat, and others),
• medications to treat
impotence,
• phenobarbital,
• rifampin (Rifadin,
Rimactane),
• ritonavir (Norvir),
• saquinavir (Invirase),
• vitamins.
Dosage:
The usual dosage to start
at is 50-100 mg. This is for
individuals anywhere between
the ages of 18-65. Older individuals
and others taking various
forms of drugs are given lower
doses (25mg). This is because
of the reduced elimination
of Viagra from their bodies.
Viagra may be consumed wit
or without food. When it is
taken with foods, it will
probably take a little longer
for it to act. This is especially
the case with consuming fatty
foods; it is known that Viagra
certainly does take longer
to act when consumed with
fatty foods.
In order to consume Viagra,
the tablets may be taken as
a whole piece or even crushed.
Viagra is taken once a day,
and if one wishes to consume
it on a daily basis a physician
should be consulted.
The best time to take Viagra
is about an hour before sexual
intercourse. However, it may
even be taken half an hour
before. On consuming Viagra,
blood flow in the erectile
tissue increases and blood
retention within it decreases,
resulting in an accumulation
of blood that makes the erection
possible. However, for this
to take place, you need to
be sexually stimulated. Without
sexual stimulation, nothing
will happen. When you have
stimulation, the effects of
Viagra will last for around
four hours.
