Zoloft Ingredients
ZOLOFT® is used in the treatment
of depression, obsessive-compulsive
disorder, panic disorder, premenstrual
dysphonic disorder, posttraumatic
stress disorder, and social anxiety
disorder. The main ingredient present
in ZOLOFT® is sertraline hydrochloride,
which is a selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitor (SSRI) meant for oral use.
Sertraline Hydrochloride is somewhat
soluble in water and isopropyl alcohol,
and to some extent soluble in ethanol.
ZOLOFT® tablets are scored and
it are also available as an oral concentrate.
ZOLOFT® tablets come in the strengths
of 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg. It contains
the following inactive ingredients:
• dibasic calcium phosphate
dihydrate,
• D & C Yellow #10 aluminum
lake (in 25 mg tablet),
• FD & C Blue #1 aluminum
lake (in 25 mg tablet),
• FD & C Red #40 aluminum
lake (in 25 mg tablet),
• FD & C Blue #2 aluminum
lake (in 50 mg tablet),
• hydroxypropyl cellulose,
• hypromellose,
• magnesium stearate,
• microcrystalline cellulose,
• polyethylene glycol,
• polysorbate 80,
• sodium starch glycolate,
• synthetic yellow iron oxide
(in 100 mg tablet), and
• titanium dioxide.
The oral concentrate comes in the
multidose of a 60mL bottle and contains
approximately 20mg of the active ingredient,
Sertraline Hydrochloride. It also
contains the following inactive ingredients:

Zoloft Chemistry
ZOLOFT® should be taken as and
how the doctor has prescribed. The
medication should be taken for the
time period of which has been set
by the doctor and not longer than
that. Taking the medication for longer
periods can make one physically dependant
on it. ZOLOFT® can be taken on
either a full or an empty stomach.
The medicine should be taken in the
morning or in the night or in the
manner that the doctor has prescribed.
For some disorders, you may have to
take the medication for a longer period
of time to feel the effects of improvements.
If you are taking ZOLOFT® for
the relief of depression, the medication
may have to be continued for at least
six months so that the state of depression
can be completely cured.
Before you can start on ZOLOFT®
it is advisable to talk to your doctor
about it so that he can advise you
on whether this medication is right
for you or not. The medication can
interact with certain medications
which may prove the pill to be useless
or may have other adverse effects
on you.
You should tell your doctor about
all medications that you are taking
and any illnesses or allergies that
you may have.
The dosage and the timing of when
to take Zoloft will be based on the
information you provide to the doctor.
Before you can drive or work under
conditions that need you to be fully
alert and your full concentration,
be sure that you know how to deal
with ZOLOFT® as this medication
causes you to feel drowsy, make you
to have trouble while thinking, and
it has also been noted for causing
movement problems.
Zoloft Dosage
The dosage for ZOLOFT® is different
to every individual according to their
medical condition. Follow the instructions
on the leaflet available with the
medication or do as the doctor has
advised. The recommended dosage is
usually 50mg in adults and in children
between the ages of 6 - 12 years old
the normal medication is usually 25
mg a day.
Children below the ages of 6 should
have their dosages approved by a doctor.
The medication can be increased by
the doctor as and when he or she feels
it is necessary to do so.
Since the medication can be taken
at different times of the day, cases
of missed dosages should be consulted
by your doctor. He or she would advise
you on what to do in such conditions. |
